TCM History
Chinese medicine has a long history since ancient times and was one of the oldest medicines amongst Egyptian and Babylonian. Medicine began to be realized when primitive clans had to inhabit in forest, fight against wild animals or other clans to survive, know how to generate fire themselves which led other kinds of cooked food that were easier to digest. TCM began to be discovered for curing some kinds of illnesses when ancient inhabitants hunted and collected herbs. Early man was found to use some sharp or heated stones to press against some points of body to alleviate other painful part of body which was finally known as acupuncture or moxibustion methodology, they also applied mud, leaves, ashes, and some herbs onto the injured area to cure wounds and bleeding which formed the earliest stage of TCM.
The official TCM history was recorded as far as ancient Chinese began to write the names of different illnesses on the oracle bones and dated back to between 1600 B.C. and 1100 B.C and some researchers debated for older times. In around 500 B.C., some books recorded disease vocabulary and the relationship between the changing astrology, seasons, climate, and environment and human sickness as well as their curing methods. Later days, two classical medicine books of Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor internal medicine classic) and Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing (Heaven Farmer herbal classic) were written by several authors to attribute those two legendary figures of their medicinal knowledge. Huang Di Nei Jing (aka TCM bible) theories were influenced by the contemporary Taoist philosophy of Ying Yang theory, Zang Fu theory and 5 elements theory. Based on these books, many medical physicians continuously practiced, amended and improved the contents with clinical cases and wrote more classical books. Zhang Han Zhar Bing Lun (Cold, fever and miscellaneous illnesses) for medical illnesses, Mai Jing (Pulse classic) for pulse prediagnosis, Bao Yian Lun (Pharmaceuctical theory) for pharmaceutics methods, Ben Cao Gan Mu (Compendium Materia Medica), Wan Bing Lun (infectious disease), etc. Beside the written manuscripts, clinical practices in different categories had been developed into a more mature stage in between 3th century and 10th century; acupuncture discovered more than 300 acu-points, medicine had listed over 700 illnesses, gynecology, pedatrics, surgery, bone-setting, and Tui-na (Chinese remdial massage) separated into specialism, and official medical faculty for education and registration approval examination were setted up in government body in Tang Dynasty (624 A.D.).
Over last two centuries, Western medicine formally imported into China by missionary activities, Western and Chinese medicine integration was fastly developed and practiced, more and more specialized disciplines combining Western and Chinese medicine had been implemented in medical system in nowadays China. Modernization of Chinese medicine has been the trend of new form of medicine in the world.
